My encounter with a Black Tailed Buck in King's Canyon, Nevada, was captured with a 70 mm lens.
This large 11 pound yellow-bellied marmot lives in the talus slopes of Mount Rose in Nevada, in the western United States. As long as kept talking to him he stayed at the entrance to his burrow in the rocks. When I would stop talking he would retreat and hide. When I started talking again he would emerge. This exchange went on for quite some time and I was able to approach within an arms length. When I saw the size of his front teeth however, I decided that I did not want to risk touching him!
While strolling through my garden, I noticed a large Praying Mantis slowly creeping up a basil plant. It stood motionless and the bees ignored it, going about their business. In the blink of an eye, the Mantis snatched a bee from the air and began devouring it alive! Other bees came in close to rescue their hive-mate but it was too late. I had my Nikon camera with a 300 mm lens as I was photographing helicopters and water-tanker planes attack a fire not far from my studio. The Great Horned Owl, also known as the tiger owl or the hoot owl, is a large owl native to the Americas. It is an extremely adaptable bird with a vast range and is the most widely distributed true owl in the Americas. I captured this image with a Nikkor 200mm lens with a flash fill in.

As I hiked in the high desert I saw many deer that, for the most part, ignored me and continued grazing. These three does looked at me curiously and even came towards me! Their ears twitched whenever I tripped the shutter on my camera. As I continued hiking they followed me for a short distance before going back to grazing on the desert vegetation.
While in the high desert of Northern Nevada I came upon this trio of female mule deer who just stared curiously at the human pointing the camera at them. ISO 400 F7.1 @ 1/40 sec with no flash
This little guy loves running around my backyard snatching up bugs. He stayed still while I adjusted my camera for this shot.
