Still Life Gallery

In this still life set up I carefully arranged the items to form a pleasing and intriguing composition. My studio lighting was arranged to give an "old world" look to the still life. Digital post processing with three different programs allowed me to create the soft look of a fine watercolor painting. The effect is especially noticeable in the larger sizes. F 4.8 @ 1/2 second; ISO 100; 110 mm focal length; no flash.

This large 13 inch specimen of Cymatium tritonis or the Pacific Trumpet Shell is a real beauty with fine coloring throughout. This near perfect specimen was collected from the Great Barrier Coral Reefs off the east Coast of Australia in 1966.

This exposure was made looking straight down as a peacock strutted past me. This vibrant close up of a peacocks tail showing the beautiful iridescent patterns in the feathers. This image makes a very beautiful and bold decorator print in canvas, paper and acrylic!
An arrangement of three large specimen seashells from my personal collection.
This large specimen of a Turbo marmoratus is verrry close to the world record in size. I collected it in 1972.Beautiful irredescent pearl on the interior, it shows the wear of it's years of growth in the sea from the numerous worm holes bored into the exterior. Heavy and thick, these shells were once used to make peal buttons for womens blouses before plastics became common.
This is the topside of a large 14.25 inch specimen of a Lambis truncata or Giant Spider Conch that was collected from the coral reefs of northern Zanzibar in East Africa in 1966. This is an unusual specimen as it has eight spines instead of the seven that is common for this species. These mollusks are collected and eaten for food by the locals in Zanzibar.
This very large specimen of Tutufa Tutufa bubo was collected in Australia in 1968. It's a very handsome marine shell with incredible sculpturing on the exterior and a warm porcelain-like finish on the interior.
