  • The setting sun over the mountains in Red Rocks Nevada illuminates the desert revealing incredible beauty in what many see as a wasteland. It's a matter of waiting for the right moment to make your exposure.

  • I took this exposure looking south at Mount Shasta the iconic symbol of Northern California. Mount Shasta is a potentially active volcano at the southern end of the Cascade Range in Siskiyou County, California. At an elevation of 14,179 feet, it is the second highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in California. The last eruption was in 1786.

  • Using a Nikon L100, I captured this image from a helicopter flying at about 3,000 feet above the water. Interestingly, just the day before, I was on the large trimaran boat you can see in the water that carries 38 passengers. Without the large three hulled boat in the photograph, it would be very hard to grasp the concept of the sheer scale of this scene along the magnificent Napali Coast of Kauai! Following the wake, you can see that the Trimaran just came out of the sea cave with the collapsed roof you see in the foreground.

Truly one of the most spectacular shorelines in the world, the Nā Pali coast is along the northwest side of Kauaʻi, the oldest inhabited Hawaiian island. The Nā Pali coast itself extends southwest starting at Keʻe Beach extending all the way to Polihale State Park. The pali (cliffs) rise as high as 4,000 feet (1,200 m) above the Pacific Ocean.

  • Lake Helen is a glacial lake or a tarn occupying a cirque at around 8,200 feet (2,500 m) in Lassen Volcanic National Park. The lake is located to the south of Lassen Peak and west of Bumpass Mountain in the Shasta Cascades region of Northern California.

Since Lake Helen is at a high elevation of 8,200 feet on the slopes of Mount Lassen in northern California, The lake is frozen and covered in deep snow for most of the year. Ice usually forms sometime around OctoberNovember and remains until July - August. During winter, Pacific storms come in from the west and bedeck the lake with copious amounts of snowfall. Annual snowfall at the lake is around 600-700 inches (15.24 m - 17.78 m), making it the snowiest place in California. The maximum average snow depth for the lake is 178 inches (4.52 m), though sometimes it could reach over 315 in. (8 m).

This photograph captures in incredible glacial blue coloration of this high alpine lake. f 10 at 1/200 sec. Shot with an 18 mm lens.

  • This small cascade falls into the Feather River in Northern California. The sun was low and casting a glow on the scene. I saw a beautiful variety of textures in this scene that I thought would be best seen in Black & White.

  • This stunning square photograph makes for a dramatic designer print especially with a grouping of my other Black & White Seashell images.
A sculptural beauty, this 12 inch specimen of Tridacna squamosa or the Giant Frilled Clam is in the same family as the Giant Clam but only attains a size of 12 to 14 inches. This 12 inch specimen was collected from the coral reefs of northern Zanzibar in East Africa in 1966.

  • This spectacular enclosed cove is one of many that can be found around the shores of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I captured this image while exploring among the huge boulders on the shore. Many of these rocks are over 20 feet above the water. The water is so clear and has a beautiful emerald green color in depths up to 50 feet.

  • In this still life set up I carefully arranged the items to form a pleasing and intriguing composition. My studio lighting was arranged to give an "old world" look to the still life. Digital post processing with three different programs allowed me to create the soft look of a fine watercolor painting. The effect is especially noticeable in the larger sizes.

  • This is the west rim of Crater Lake in Oregon USA. Wizard Island, a dormant volcanic cone, is reflected in the lake. The lake is among the deepest in the world reflecting the deep blue skies at this high elevation. Crater Lake is a caldera lake in the western United States, located in south-central Oregon. It is the main feature of Crater Lake National Park and is famous for its deep blue color and water clarity. The lake partly fills a nearly 2,148-foot deep caldera that was formed around 7,700 years ago by the collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama.
